The Hailey Care Home
The Hailey has been a Residential Care Home specialising in Mental Health for
approximately 30 years and as such is very well established in the community,
with very good relationships with all of the local Mental Health Teams.
In 2000 a large extension was added to the rear of The Hailey, which allowed
for 12 new bedrooms with en-suite facilities, a small kitchen for client use
under supervision, a reading room which also doubles as an additional lounge
which the video club uses. All of the bedrooms were designed to comply
with the minimum sizes set out by the Care Standards Act 2000.
At the same time a new laundry was built along with two additional large
bathrooms, one of which if fully fitted for disabled use.
To enhance all of the services offered by the staff at The Hailey, to the
rear of the home is a purpose built Day Centre, where residents of The Hailey
and Wimbledon House regularly attend. A variety of activities are covered
there, which included planning, shopping for and preparing meals, general
domestic chores, washing up, using the washing machine and the tumble dryer.
Residents are also encourages to participate in hobbies such as photography and
creative pursuits.
As part of the continuing improvements a hair and treatment salon was added
to The Hailey for residents that are fortunate to be able to afford High Street
prices.

Charges
Accommodation charges are dependent on the local authority contracted rates
which start from £476.62 per week. All fees are reviewed annually in April.
Placements
All prospective new residents must undergo a full Needs Assessment prior to
being accepted and in all cases potential residents are encouraged to visit The
Hailey, initially to spend a few hours and have lunch and then stay overnight.
All placements are subject to a one month trial period to ensure that the
service and the resident are suitable.
Training Room & Day Centre
To the rear of The Hailey is a purpose built Day Centre and Training Room.
The Day Centre has it's own Activities Co-ordinator and is available to all
residents living at The Hailey and the Wimbledon. A great number of topics
are covered in the Day Centre, which include learning how to plan, purchase and
prepare a meal, cake making, tea and coffee mornings, art groups, photography,
video club or just simply bingo, all of these activities are provided by the
Company, however, when outside activities are arranged such as trips to the
theatre, tea dances, golf lessons, Museums and zoo's etc residents are expected
to contribute.
The training room was developed so that staff could be trained in-house in a
bright and comfortable environment and to date has seen the successful
completion of a variety of courses such as: Mental Health, First Aid at Work,
First Aider, Moving and Handling, Safe Handling of Medication, Adult Protection,
Health and Safety and Fire Protection.
The Training room has also been hired out to external organisations for them
to deliver their own training to their own people.
Kitchen, Laundry & Salon
The kitchen at The Hailey is a well organised facility at the heart of the
home, the chef has been employed at The Hailey for more than 10 years and has a
full understanding of the needs of the residents.
The Kitchen provides 4 meals a day. Breakfast, Lunch, Evening Meal and
Supper, in addition hot and cold drinks are available throughout the day along
with an assortment of biscuits and cakes.
The Hailey has recently benefited from having a hair and treatment salon
added for the use of residents.
The staff are always happy to help the residents with a variety of treatments
from hair cutting, perming, colouring and nail treatments.
In 2001 a purpose built Laundry was added to The Hailey, with a large
commercial washing machine and tumble dryer.
Residents are encouraged to take their washing to the laundry and where
appropriate are even shown how to use the machines.
Bedrooms
The Hailey has 32 bedrooms, of which 12 are located in a purpose built single
story extension. All of these 12 rooms were built in 2001 and comprise of
en-suite showers, hand basins and WC's. They also have direct access to an
internal courtyard with a water feature.
The remaining 20 bedrooms are all located within the main house and are spilt
over the three floors of the house. 2 of the bedrooms are registered as
double rooms therefore suitable for couples wishing to share.
All bedrooms are supplied with a single bed, chest of drawers, bedside
cabinet, wardrobe and chair. IN addition all rooms are also fitted with a
TV point connected to SKY digital.
Clients are welcome to personalise bedrooms with furniture and belongings
that they feel comfortable with.
Bathrooms & Toilets
There are a number of bathrooms and toilets throughout The Hailey located on
the ground floor.
The main bathroom on the ground floor has been designed as a disabled
bathroom fitted with a bath accessible on three sides with a fitted hoist for
residents who can not get in and out of the bath un-aided.
There is a further bathroom on the ground floor and a shower room, both with
wash hand basins and WC.
On the first floor there is an additional bathroom for those who do not need
assistance. There are also 3 further toilets on the first floor.
All of the new bedrooms on the ground floor have en-suite shower rooms which
also include a toilet and had basin.
Communal Areas
The Hailey has a variety of communal areas around the house, a large dining
room that is also used for a variety of activities and games.
The main lounge has just recently been redecorated and has been spilt into
two halves. One half to watch television.
From the comfortable leather sofa's and the other half to sit quietly and
either listen to the piano or just sit and chat with friends.
The Library area at the rear of the house has been set up so that residents
can read quietly, play board-games or even enjoy a game of pool.
The Library area is also used frequently by the Day Centre when they get
together with the video club
